Artist Tāne Te Manu returns to Bunjil Place with a very special drop-in workshop creating Māori feather and muka hair adornments. Discover the rich cultural heritage of Māori adornments in our upcoming workshop, where you'll learn to craft beautiful raukura, traditional hair decorations made from feathers and muka (flax fibres).
In Māori culture, certain birds are revered as symbols of leadership, and their feathers have long been used to signify status and beauty. Chiefs adorned themselves with the exquisite kahu huruhuru, a feather cloak made from the finest bird feathers, showcasing their high rank.
Head adornments hold a special place in Māori tradition, as the head is considered the most sacred part of the body. Participants will make their own unique feathered hair piece during this drop-in style workshop.
Inspired by the fashion on display in FROCK A WHANAUNGATANGA, celebrate the closing weekend of the exhibition and enjoy the opportunity to connect with Māori traditions and create your own stunning piece of art at Bunjil Place Gallery.
