Emergent 2023: Graduate Showcase Exhibition

Immerse yourself in the future of art and design from our local region, and witness the next wave of artists, designers, makers and photographers featured in Emergent 2023: Graduate Showcase.

From the warmth of finding safety amongst family, friends and culture, to experiences of mental health, this year’s 35 exhibiting artists share with us their concerns and challenges, but also their ideas and aspirations. Working across a range of mediums, these artists, designers, film makers and photographers demonstrate the ways one idea can be explored through a range of methods.

Material contrasts of soft and hard, delicate and robust are a notable feature throughout the exhibition. Many of the artists and designers use the exploration of creative processes to uncover key themes and ideas, whilst also embracing the joy of making.

Stepping outside the school environment to share art, design, photography and film in the public realm shifts the context through which these artists are understood. Their work transitions from being a school project developed for assessment against curriculum, to be a work of art, a design solution, a short film or a photo series existing within and responding to contemporary culture.

Emergent 2023: Graduate Showcase was co-curated by four year 11 students; Skye Anand, Cranbourne Secondary College; Daleia Lacomel, Hampton Park Secondary College; Sarah Reynolds, Fountain Gate Secondary College and Gemma Valastro, Beaconhills College.
