ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Floribunda is an exhibition organised by Bunjil Place in partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria. Curated by David Sequeira.

The title, Floribunda, Latin for many-flowering is a hybrid of ‘flower’ and ‘abundance’.

The exhibition Floribunda, a major partnership between the National Gallery of Victoria and Bunjil Place, is an intoxicating larger-than-life mashup of floral imagery, design and motif drawn exclusively from the NGV Collection. Through its ‘Wunderkammer’ style of display, Floribunda celebrates and reimagines the nature and significance of one of Australia’s most important collections. Including Decorative Arts, Fashion and Textiles, Painting, First Nations Australia and Pacific Art, the selection of works spans multiple histories, cultures and art forms. Featuring poignant still life paintings, couture embellished with swirls of floral pattern, and objects lavishly adorned with buds and blooms, Floribunda connects human experience with the beauty and poetic symbolism of flowers.

ABOUT PIANO ROOM

Post classical, minimalist piano music meets cinematic sound and poetry in this hauntingly beautiful performance.

Step into an illuminated magical garden, and find your perfect listening spot to experience curious sounds, rhythmic beats, virtuosic live piano, and meandering rivers of poetry. You'll be entranced by this one-of-a-kind, relaxed performance installation that everyone can enjoy.

Piano Room is conceived and composed by award-winning composer Corrina Bonshek (best contemporary classical composition 2022 Queensland Music Awards) who is known for her immersive, nature-inspired music that’s ‘sonically attractive’ (Loudmouth 2020), ‘meditative’ (Journal of Music 2021) and reminiscent of Ludovico Einaudi and Nils Frahm.

This sonic experience is co-created, performed and written by the mesmeric, multi-award-winning actor-playwright Merlynn Tong.
