Hakaya (Stories) of Eid - Bukjeh Annual Eid Celebration
Dates

Location
Hakaya – Bukjeh’s fun day of performances for all families around Eid, celebrating the beauty of our rich cultures around the world. We collaborate with artists from diverse, multicultural communities and lived experiences.
Inspired by Eid's spirit in our homelands, domed canopies will be installed around Bunjil Place. These canopies are decorated in art inspired by the diverse cultural backgrounds and stories of families across Victoria. Under each canopy will be an art activity based around the Islamic theme of the event.
Hakaya is designed to function as a festive reactivation of our community, literally and metaphorically bringing people together under one 'roof'. The word Hakaya translates as 'stories' which are a key part of the community call to the gathering, acting as a summons to bring a community together in solidarity and support.
The performance is designed to be flexible, accessible and welcomes the audience to explore the space.
Children are invited to discover Eid characters and symbols hidden around the library, from the mosque to the prayer mat and other important elements including moon formation, how fasting is broken and popular culinary dishes. Young people will delight in this educational & fun activity designed to share fascinating facts about Eid in the award-winning creative hub.
About Bukjeh
Bukjeh is an award-winning project which turned into an organisation delivering cultural experiences, community engagements and intercultural exchanges in schools, theatres, and conferences for almost a decade across Victoria.
Bukjeh's purpose is to create connection and community. Our basic human need to meet and support one another has never been more urgent, or more difficult to fulfill, as we emerge from the pandemic.
