Wednesday Night Workshop: Pentimento & Acrylic Paint

Join us at Bunjil Place for another Wednesday Night Workshop as we continue to explore a range of mediums and techniques across the year, at these relaxed, hands-on workshops.

This month, we will explore the notion of pentimento – the presence or emergence of images that have been painted over. In this Wednesday Night Workshop, participants will enjoy the creative freedom and self expression that comes with painting over an existing image. Choose from an array of images provided to create a new artwork of your very own. Be inspired by lines, shapes, colours and textures as you spend a relaxing two hours in the company of other art lovers. Working with acrylic paint, this ‘chose your own adventure’-style workshop will remove the anxiety that comes with a blank page.

This is an 18+ only workshop.
Suitable for all skill levels.

About your teaching artist

Melbourne-based Yaz Gaté, née del Mar, is founder of Tiny Cupboard Creatives - a small enterprise providing exciting in studio and virtual classes, workshops and events for learners of all ages, as well as commissioned artwork and creative collaborations with other artists and organisations such as The Tarra Warra Museum of Art, The City of Greater Dandenong, Glen Eira Council, Linden New Arts and the Philippine Embassy of Australia.

Yaz specialises in canvas and digital art but has a wide practice that includes textiles and sewing, lino printing and drawing. She has a strong interest in botanicals, their connection to cultural identity and the way culture and life stories shape art making. Over the last 4 years, she has drawn on her own Filipino Australian background to explore the way migration and family can impact storytelling in art. Yaz typically uses bold black lines and vibrant colour palette making her work distinctive.
