This cross-cultural and cross-genre dance project brings together 4 dance artists with 6 nationalities amongst them. Through a mix of Contemporary, Hip Hop and Krump dynamics, this work unravels the dancers’ own cultural experiences; creating an intriguing conversation of disrupted lines, bursts of powerful energy and liquid flow combined with raw, visceral movement, as they break down the confines of their respective dance styles.

Jennifer Ma is a Taiwanese-Australian dancer and choreographer. Jennifer studied contemporary dance at Transit Dance, danced with Mute Crew and was a member of Dancehouse’s Emerging Choreographers Program. She has also performed in Stephanie Lake Company’s Colossus for two Melbourne seasons. Jennifer’s own choreographic practice lies in the intersection of contemporary and street dance, resulting in her first full length work, Home(s), which premiered at Melbourne Fringe Festival and will be remounted at Bunjil Place in 2021. In 2020, Jennifer was a mentor for female street dancers of Sister Sessions Vol.6 and received a commission from Bunjil Place as part of Art Echoes. Currently, Jennifer is developing and self-producing her new multidisciplinary dance work, We Are Here.
Nak Assa has over 10 years of experience in both choreography and freestyle; and is the founding director of a Melbourne-based street dance crew, Mute. With a genuine interest in various street dance styles, Nak has travelled internationally to Singapore, Japan, Vietnam and the US to attend dance camps, competitions and private trainings with world class street dancers to consistently refine his craft. This diverse training along with Nak’s uplifting spirit has led him to become an award-winning dancer/choreographer (Pass The Buck 2016 with HIT’M and Step Off 2015, 2016, 2017 with Mute). In 2019, Nak has ventured into contemporary dance working with Jennifer Ma & Collaborators on Home(s) and is also currently in development for We Are Here.
With extensive experience in teaching locally and internationally, Nak also offers his own Bespoke Training Program. This is a platform for dancers and choreographers to explore working with new perspectives, both physically and mentally.
Kaitlin Malone has developed her artistic practice under the mentorship of Paul Malek and Israel Aloni at Transit Dance, since graduating in 2018. Kaitlin is a current company artist with Transit Dance Company, Variation Three, and Jennifer Ma & Collaborators. In 2018 and 2019 she performed with Stephanie Lake Company in ‘Colossus’ for two Melbourne seasons, as well as rehearsal assistant for the Perth and Switzerland tour in 2020. Kaitlin is debuting her first work as part of a triple bill with Origins Dance Company in 2021. Alongside her artistic practice, Kaitlin is also a passionate teacher and mentor. Her investment as a working performer compliments her abilities to teach current industry knowledge and is developing her unique style. Moreover, Kaitlin is excited at the future opportunities to bind her passion in performing, choreographing and teaching.
David Leupolu is an Indian/Samoan freestyle artist who began his journey into the realm of street dance in 2012 and has explored multiple genres such as Popping, Hip Hop freestyle, House, and Krump.
