Learn how to explore Contemporary Indigenous Theatre. This one-day professional development workshop will support your drama teaching in years 9 and 10 and will be delivered by First Nations and non-Indigenous practitioners. Teachers will experience ways First Nations theatre practitioners approach creating drama through devising, script development, and collaborative work.

Join us and learn hands-on how First Nations practitioners create, develop, and perform theatre that explores differing viewpoints.

Presented by Mark Nannup and Danielle Hradsky

Mark Nannup is a Yamatji/Noongar man from Western Australia. Mark grew up in Meekatharra and Port Hedland, and moved to Melbourne in 2013, and within that time he became a board member for the Victorian NAIDOC committee from 2015-2018 and was the first indigenous engagement coordinator for the Midsumma festival in 2017. He then went on to complete his Bachelors Degree in Acting at the VCA.

Mark his been in some of the biggest cultural changes movements in theatre since completing his degree in 2019, with starting in the theatre production - HECATE, 2019 Directing by - Kylie Bracknell. This production subverts the Shakespeare play of McBeth into an entire version spoken in Noongar language. Then in 2021 Mark went on to voice - Lo Wei, in the dubbing of - Fist of Fury Noongar Daa, also directed by Kylie Bracknell - this was another first for Australia, where an entire movie was dubbed in the language of Noongar people.

As well as an actor, Mark is a respected community member and change maker, with culture at the heart of everything he does.

Danielle Hradsky is an experienced educator and researcher, recently completing her PhD at Monash University. Danielle is a co-author of Teaching First Nations content and concepts in the drama classroom and has designed and facilitated extensive professional learning programs engaging teachers with the complexities of teaching for reconciliation. Danielle also taught secondary school drama for six years. Danielle is currently on the Committee of Management for Drama Victoria, co-managing the Reconciliation and Conference portfolios.
