Deep Fried Dub
Deep Fried Dub is a dubwise electronic duo, Ben Hartley and Ben Dudding.
The Deep Fried sound is an eclectic mix of contemporary electronic beats with deep dub stylings that crosses genres as diverse as Dub, Drum and Bass, Dance Hall and Deep Tribal Beats. The two producers originally met in New Zealand where they formed the electronic dance group Redivider in 1996.
Their early involvement in integral events such as the gathering helped form the early dance music scene in New Zealand and gained them a cult following and extensive radio play on alternative radio. Ben and Ben both moved to Melbourne in 2000 along with fellow producer Freq (Aran Gallagher) where they formed the production studio ‘Polygon Labs’. Initially working on solo projects, the two Bens started collaboration again in 2003 with a new dubwise sound and Deep Fried Dub was born.
After playing numerous festivals in New Zealand (such as Caanan Downs Festival, Rippon Festival, Alpine Unity), Deep Fried really started getting recognition in Australia when they started playing at a number of high profile festivals such as Earth Dance and Rainbow Serpent. The self-titled debut album was originally released in 2007 on legendary Australian label Psy Harmonics.
Since then Deep Fried have released their second album ‘Slow Cooked’, along with a string of remix E.P’s and a collaboration album with Mc Sk Simeon on respected U.K label Dubmission Records. The Refried E.P’s include Deep Fried Dub remixes of local and international artists such as Pitch Black, The Black Seeds, Isaac Chambers and Dub Princess, International Observer and Jake Savona.
