Bringing together 20 artists across a range of media, Emergent 2022 sees each artist use their unique style to explore relationships with oneself and others. Experiences of dysphoria and connections to the natural world are also prominent themes in this year’s exhibition. The Beheld by Amalie Roberts is beautifully animated work featured in the exhibition and in the Outdoor Screen program.

"My chosen theme for Units 3 and 4 Studio Art was storytelling, with this artwork exploring how an audience interacts with a story. I have communicated in my artwork the immersive experience of witnessing a piece of media for the first time, alongside the often taxing emotional investment involved with such. The subjects depicted include my friend and the characters from within a novel she is shown to be reading. Dispersed throughout the video are flashes of scenes from the novel, merging her perspective with that of the protagonist, and highlighting how her own life and identity have been cast aside and replaced with the distraction momentarily." - Amalie Roberts

Amalie Roberts is an LGBTQIA+ multidisciplinary artist residing in the outer suburbs of Frankston. Exploring ideas of character and emotion, they seek to criticise the world around us, and comment on the inescapable desire to experience lives beyond our own. They care about time taken to immerse oneself in stories, art, and music, as well as time spent with friends and family.
